Chainsaw Man After Season 1: Watch Reze Before Manga Part 2
If you have finished the 12-episode Chainsaw Man TV season and want the next story, look for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. It follows the season’s ending. Do not jump straight to Part 2 of the manga: that label means a later section of the manga, not the next episode or the next film. And if you see Chainsaw Man – The Compilation Part I and Part II, those are recap films, not adaptations of manga Part 1 and Part 2.
The confusion is understandable because three different naming systems sit beside each other: a TV season, two films with Part I/Part II in their title, and two parts of the manga. They describe different things. A useful watch list labels both medium and story position instead of treating every Roman numeral as the same sequence. Once you separate them, the practical answer is simple: Reze is the next animated story after the season; the Compilation is an optional refresher; manga Part 2 comes later.
The watch order: finish the season, then choose your next move
Crunchyroll’s arc guide describes the first TV season through the Introduction, Bat Devil, Eternity Devil and Katana Man arcs, then lists The Compilation and the Reze Arc movie after it. Its guide identifies the Katana Man story as the season’s ending point. The official movie site uses the title Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc; taken together, those records make the intended next animated story clear without relying on a guessed season number or current streaming catalogue.[2][4]
The useful distinction is between the next item in an anime catalogue and the next piece of new story. The compilation films sit between the TV season and Reze in the published watch-order list, but their purpose is to revisit material. If you want the plot to move forward after episode 12, the Reze film is the continuation to choose. If you want a memory refresh first, the compilation is an option, not a prerequisite.
What Compilation Parts I and II mean
The title Chainsaw Man – The Compilation Part I and Part II is easy to misread if you have also heard fans talk about manga Part 1 and Part 2. Crunchyroll describes the two-part compilation as a retelling of key moments from the TV anime, with newly animated Chainsaw Days segments adapting extra end chapters. So the two Compilation labels divide the recap project; they do not signal that one film covers manga Part 1 and the other carries the plot into manga Part 2.[3]
That bonus material is worth distinguishing from the main story. Calling the compilation nothing but recycled episodes would leave out the new animated additions. But the additions do not turn the project into the next major manga arc. If you already remember the TV season, you can skip the recaps and go to Reze. If the names and character relationships have blurred, watching a recap first may make the handoff easier to follow. Either way, you have not missed the continuation by choosing the film directly.
Why manga Part 2 is not the immediate next stop
Manga Part 2 is a division within the manga’s publication and story history. It began after Part 1, rather than serving as a loose synonym for whatever anime chapter comes next. Crunchyroll’s account of the manga’s release describes Part 2 as starting after Part 1, and notes that the first eleven English volumes belong to Part 1. VIZ’s description of Volume 6 already introduces Reze. That places the Reze material inside the earlier manga section, before the Part 2 handoff.[5][6]
That is the point that makes a quick recommendation like “the anime covered Part 1, so start Part 2” risky. The TV season adapts only the first stretch of the larger story: it ends after Katana Man, while Reze follows. There is story between the TV stopping point and the manga’s later Part 2 section. Treating the anime season title as a map of the manga’s part labels can send a reader past material they have not seen.
A manga part, an anime season and a compilation installment are not interchangeable units. A title saying Part II does not tell you whether it is a new story, a recap, or a later publication section; check what the title refers to before choosing. Here, the answer depends on the medium you want: Reze for the next animated story, Compilation if you want a recap, and manga Part 2 only after the earlier manga story is complete.
If you would rather read than watch
The no-guessing route is to start the manga at Chapter 1 and read forward. VIZ has an official Chapter 1 page, so there is no need to infer a volume boundary from an episode list. Starting at the beginning also lets you compare the manga’s pacing and paneling with the adaptation rather than treating it only as a place to resume.[14]
If you want to skip ahead, look for a guide that names your exact stopping point: the end of the TV season or the end of the Reze film. Then check whether its number means “the last chapter adapted” or “the first chapter to read next.” Those instructions can point to adjacent chapters without necessarily contradicting each other. A film may also adapt only part of a chapter, so some overlap can be preferable to missing the transition. This guide leaves the exact jump-in number unresolved; the source notes explain the evidence gap rather than offering an unverified shortcut.[15][16]
The small practical rule is to match the recommendation to what you have actually finished. If you have watched only season 1, do not use a guide written for someone who has also seen the movie. If you have seen the movie, do not assume a season-ending chapter map still applies. When a guide simply says “after the anime,” check which adaptation it means before you buy a volume or skip chapters. Imagine three fans asking the same question: one has finished season 1 and wants the next animation, one has watched the film and wants to jump into manga, and one has already read all of Part 1 and wants the later section. Their answers differ because their stopping points differ. A helpful recommendation names both the medium and the stopping point, rather than using “after the anime” as shorthand.
A spoiler-light route through the names
You can keep the choice simple without reading plot summaries. Finished the TV season and want more animation? Choose Reze Arc. Want to remember the season first? The two Compilation films revisit it, with extra animated material, but do not replace Reze as the next main story. Want the manga? Start from Chapter 1 if you want a fully reliable, no-skip route. Manga Part 2 is a later section, not a label for the next animated installment. To stay spoiler-light, look up the title and format, not a full plot summary. An order list naming the Reze Arc film is enough to find the next item; you do not need to read a synopsis to choose.
That ordering answers the question without promising where to stream a title in a particular country, guessing about a future television season, or handing you a chapter number that the sources do not settle. The answer to “what comes after season 1?” is Reze. The answer to “what does Part 2 mean?” depends on whether the words appear on a manga volume or on the two-part compilation.
